Finissage - Dialogic tour

The starting point for the tour is the relationship between Georg Kolbe and Herbert List: contemporaries with mutual acquaintances who devoted themselves to the male figure in their respective artistic genres. Their very different biographies left specific traces in their work during the politically and socially difficult period of the 20th century.

Particular attention is paid to the development of the image of men: in the joint examination, this theme is embedded in an art-historical as well as gender and body-political context and linked to current issues.

The tour is intended as an open discussion format that combines historical perspectives, curatorial classifications and contemporary interpretations, offering space for exchange with the audience.

Peer-Olaf Richter has been managing the Herbert List estate in Hamburg since 2003 and is a member of the supervisory board of Magnum Photos, where he represents the photographers‘ estates of the legendary cooperative.

Ben Miller is a writer and historian based in Berlin. He hosts Bad Gays, a podcast about complicated queer personalities. A book based on the show, Bad Gays: A Homosexual History, was published by Verso in 2022.
